As a Senior Network Security Engineer, you take ownership of a complex and highly secure network landscape that supports national operations. You design and implement resilient network solutions, strengthen the security posture of the infrastructure, and guide engineering teams through best practices, hardening and operational excellence.

You bring deep technical expertise, a high sense of responsibility and the ability to work in a classified environment where precision, discretion and reliability are essential.

What you’ll do

  • Design and implement scalable, secure and innovative network solutions that meet evolving operational needs.
  • Lead the operational management of network infrastructure, ensuring continuity, performance and security at all times.
  • Analyse, harden and optimise network components, including routing, switching, firewalls, VPN and NAC.
  • Conduct audits and hardening activities, and support intrusion detection and prevention initiatives.
  • Diagnose complex issues across Windows, Linux, virtualisation and networking layers, and implement high-availability and performance-tuning solutions.
  • Strengthen DevOps pipelines from a network and security perspective, ensuring secure integration into automated workflows.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date network inventories and documentation, including procedures and architecture components.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, support cross-team collaboration and contribute to the continuous development of internal expertise.
  • Apply and promote security frameworks and best practices, including Zero Trust, PKI, SIEM/SOAR usage, vulnerability management and ITIL service processes.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Network Engineer in complex and security-sensitive environments.
  • Strong expertise across routing & switching, firewalls, VPN, IPAM, NAC, TCP/IP, and virtualisation (VMware).
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Linux, and storage technologies.
  • Experience with auditing, hardening, and securing network and system components.
  • Familiarity with IDS/IPS, network monitoring, log analysis (ELK Stack), and automated inventory management.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps principles, container technologies (Docker/Podman), and ITILv4.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability and a pragmatic approach to incident handling.
  • Proven experience leading teams, coaching colleagues and driving alignment across technical domains.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch or French, with strong knowledge of the second national language and English.

Mandatory conditions

  • Belgian nationality.
  • Valid “Zeer Geheim / Très Secret” security clearance or willingness to obtain one.
  • Minimum 10 years of proven relevant experience.
  • Full on-site presence required (no remote work possible).
