Network Engineer – Datacenter & Secure Infrastructure
Brussels-Capital
Digital - Infrastructure
Reference number: 92554

You will join a central IT infrastructure organization that supports highly critical digital platforms used nationwide. The environment combines centralized datacenters with multiple decentralized sites, all connected through secure, highly available network infrastructures.

You will work within the Operations / Infrastructure domain, where reliability, security, and availability are non-negotiable. The role combines hands-on network engineering, datacenter work, and support for distributed teams across the country.

What you will do

  • You design, configure, and maintain secure, highly available network infrastructures across datacenters and decentralized sites.
  • You play a key role in a datacenter migration, coordinating and executing the progressive relocation of physical servers (including AI workloads) from an existing datacenter to a new one.
  • You analyze the existing network landscape and define a clear migration plan, including tasks, timelines, dependencies, and risks.
  • You install, configure, and maintain network equipment required for the new datacenter setup, ensuring robustness, security, and performance.
  • You participate in the physical migration of servers, including rack & stack, cabling, and validation after installation.
  • You maintain and evolve the network infrastructure after migration, ensuring continuous availability and secure operations.
  • You support the interconnection of local networks with a national backbone, including physical connectivity, firewall configuration, and ongoing maintenance.
  • You provide technical support, guidance, and basic training to decentralized IT teams, helping them operate secure and reliable local networks.

What are we looking for?

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in IT (or equivalent experience), ideally with a systems or infrastructure orientation.
  • You have several years of experience as a Network Engineer in complex, on-premise environments.
  • You have strong hands-on experience with pfSense and/or OPNsense, including high-availability setups.
  • You are comfortable working with Cisco network equipment, both Layer-2 and Layer-3.
  • You have solid knowledge of high-availability network architectures, LAN/VLAN design, and secure network segmentation.
  • You understand network security principles, including firewalling and VPN technologies.
  • You are comfortable performing physical datacenter work, including installing servers in racks and managing structured cabling.
  • You can diagnose network issues, identify root causes, and provide clear, effective support to users and local IT teams.
  • Experience with Linux administration and virtualization platforms (KVM, Proxmox) is a strong plus.
  • You are fluent in English and have working knowledge of Dutch or French. (Active knowledge of one national language and at least passive understanding of the other is a strong plus)
