RAMS Engineer

Location: Infrabel HQ, France Avenue 85, 1060 Saint-Gilles (Brussels)

Duration: 01/12/2025 – 30/11/2026

Context

Infrabel is a dynamic public company that actively contributes to sustainable mobility in Belgium, serving the country’s social and economic development. As the manager of the Belgian railway infrastructure, Infrabel’s mission is to provide railway operators with a competitive, reliable infrastructure adapted to their needs — both now and in the future.

Safety and punctuality are at the core of this mission. Infrabel aims to become one of the safest and most reliable rail networks in Europe. To achieve this, the organization focuses not only on safety, but also on ergonomics for train drivers, network capacity, system reliability, and interoperability.

To support these objectives, Infrabel is rolling out several strategic programs — such as the concentration of signalling posts and the implementation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) within the field of railway signalling.

Given the ambitious timelines for these programs, Infrabel is reinforcing its Signalling Department and is currently looking for experienced Safety Engineers (RAMS Engineers).

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects related to railway signalling and the implementation of ETCS and interlocking systems on the Belgian rail network.
  • Support design teams within “Signalling Projects” with safety-related matters, contributing to the design and development of signalling systems (ETCS and interlocking).
  • Conduct safety reviews and collaborate closely with design, testing, project management, and user teams.
  • Execute and monitor safety activities as described in safety plans using professional analysis methods such as FMECA, FTA, HAZOP, PHI/PHA, and in compliance with CENELEC standards EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129.
  • Document all safety activities and compile safety files as legally required for new or modified systems.
  • Collaborate with external evaluation bodies (Independent Safety Assessor / Independent Assessor) for system certification and commissioning.
  • Provide feedback and suggest improvements applicable to future projects.
  • Report directly to the Team Lead of Safety Engineers on a regular basis.
