You will work in a large, stable IT environment supporting complex applications used in education and research contexts.

Your role focuses on strengthening and evolving an existing application landscape while ensuring continuity, quality, and long-term maintainability.

Although your background is Java, your day-to-day focus leans strongly toward front-end development, with the flexibility to work full-stack where needed. This role suits senior developers who enjoy combining hands-on development with technical leadership and coaching responsibilities in a mature environment.

Your responsibilities include

  • Developing and adapting software based on clearly defined user stories.
  • Contributing primarily to front-end development, with the ability to work full-stack when required.
  • Ensuring software quality through clean code practices, testing, and documentation.
  • Supporting IT projects through hands-on technical contribution.
  • Ensuring continuity and stability of existing applications.
  • Collaborating closely with architects, functional and technical analysts, and project managers.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior developers within the team.
  • Safeguarding software quality and technical standards across the team.
  • Supporting planning and delivery to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of team maturity and technical knowledge.
  • Applying Agile principles and taking a guiding role where appropriate.

What are we looking for?

  • You have proven Senior level experience developing Java-based applications.
  • You have experience coaching and guiding developers.
  • You have hands-on experience working in Agile development environments, with the ability to take a leading role.
  • You have experience with web development, including Angular, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • You have working knowledge of frameworks and APIs such as Spring and Hibernate.
  • You have experience with web services (REST and SOAP).
  • You are familiar with UML, Git, and relational databases.
  • You are fluent in Dutch at CEFR level C2 (hard requirement).

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with digitalisation or process optimisation in education or research environments.
  • Experience with additional front-end frameworks such as Wicket or Bootstrap.
  • Experience contributing to long-term application modernisation initiatives.
