A major organization in the European energy landscape is expanding its analytical capabilities to support long-term planning, flexibility studies and system adequacy assessments. As the energy mix shifts toward renewables, advanced modelling is essential to understand future flexibility needs, RES integration, and system behaviour under different scenarios. To strengthen the team, we are looking for an Energy Market Modelling Specialist with strong analytical skills and hands-on experience in R or Python.

What you’ll do

  • Use market simulation outputs to analyse residual load, RES curtailment and flexibility indicators.
  • Produce hourly, daily and seasonal statistics aligned with regulatory methodologies for flexibility needs assessments.
  • Support ramping needs analysis by evaluating hourly ramps and assessing the capability of different technologies to follow them.
  • Contribute to short-term flexibility studies, including the impact of unexpected demand shifts, RES variability and outages.
  • Ensure consistency between flexibility analysis and other system studies such as adequacy reports and seasonal outlooks.
  • Prepare clear visualisations and dashboards to communicate modelling insights.
  • Improve or develop tools in R, Python, Excel or VBA to streamline data extraction and analysis workflows.
  • Validate and challenge simulation inputs and outputs through critical data interpretation.
  • Support methodological development for new indicators and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with analysts, system experts and simulation specialists to align assumptions and modelling choices.
  • Contribute to report drafting and provide data-driven insights for key publications.
  • Work proactively within a highly technical team focused on Europe’s energy transition.

What are we looking for?

  • You have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in modelling, analytics or energy market studies.
  • You are proficient in R or Python (must-have).
  • You have strong skills in Excel; knowledge of VBA is a plus.
  • You have experience with or interest in economic dispatch tools (e.g., ANTARES is a plus).
  • You have solid knowledge of or strong interest in electricity markets and system behaviour.
  • You work analytically, challenge assumptions, and bring innovative ideas.
  • You can work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • You are fluent in Dutch or French and fluent in English.
