You will take a leading role in guiding the development and evolution of Java-based systems in a complex digital healthcare environment. This is a hybrid role combining hands-on development, technical coaching, architectural decision-making, and coordination across development, operations, and external software partners.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain core Java components while coaching developers on best practices and solution approaches.
- Provide technical leadership, challenge engineering decisions, and guide IT professionals in both process and implementation.
- Summarise development progress and bottlenecks at project level in an Agile/Scrum context.
- Analyse the impact of new functional requirements and propose technical options together with developers and liaison stakeholders.
- Produce macro-level technical estimates and contribute to architectural decisions.
- Assess the impact of system changes on external software vendors and coordinate technical alignment.
- Produce specification documents and cookbook-style guidelines for software vendors.
- Manage release planning and ensure clear prioritisation in collaboration with business owners.
- Own the operations/architecture backlog in Jira and maintain clean documentation.
- Proactively identify opportunities for technical optimisation and long-term system sustainability.
- Coach development teams (Agile context) and support operations teams with structure, prioritisation, and escalation management.
- Act as a diplomatic, solution-focused leader who brings clarity, structure, and technical direction
What are we looking for?
- You hold a Master’s degree (mandatory), ideally in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or Business Engineering (Information Management).
- You have at least 5 years of experience leading people, coaching teams, or managing technical delivery.
- You have 5+ years of experience in Java system development and maintenance.
- You are hands-on with Java and able to support, review, and guide implementations.
- You have knowledge of FHIR and a strong understanding of digital health flows.
- Experience with e-health systems is an advantage.
- You can work at both abstraction level and detail level and switch between them with ease.
- You are skilled in Agile/Scrum methodologies and Jira-based backlog management.
- You can write clear technical documentation for internal teams and external software vendors.
- You communicate fluently in Dutch, can write well in English, and understand French.
- You demonstrate strong coaching skills, diplomacy, structured thinking, and a collaborative mindset.
