As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building and operating the AI & Analytics Platform that powers data-driven innovation across the Flemish Government. You’ll work within the central Data Platform team, helping to automate infrastructure, streamline AI pipelines, and ensure a reliable, scalable, and secure environment for advanced analytics and machine learning.
This role combines deep technical expertise with hands-on impact, ideal for a senior engineer passionate about data, AI, and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and operate the AI & Analytics Platform, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform based on the reference architecture.
- Automate and optimize CI/CD pipelines for AI workloads (Databricks Assets Bundles).
- Deploy infrastructure and services for new AI use cases and partner integrations.
- Handle incident management and urgent bug fixing during office hours.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the platform and integration of new capabilities.
What are we looking for?
Must-Have Skills
- 8+ years of experience as a Data Engineer and/or DevOps Engineer.
- Strong knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
- Proven experience with the Azure ecosystem (compute, storage, networking).
- Expertise with Apache Spark for large-scale data processing.
- Experience with data lake architectures (Azure Data Lake, Delta Lake).
- Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Fluent in Dutch (CEFR level C2).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT, Engineering, or equivalent through experience.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Familiarity with Databricks for data engineering and ML operations.
- Experience with container orchestration systems (e.g. Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of streaming technologies such as Kafka, Spark Streaming, or Flink.
- Experience with Linux system administration.
