We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to strengthen the team that builds and maintains real-time systems used to monitor and manage national railway traffic. You will work on a suite of mission-critical Java applications used daily in multiple operational control rooms.

This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership in a modern, agile environment.

What you’ll do

  • Design and develop complex, real-time Java applications used in 24/7 operational environments.
  • Coach and support engineers through strong technical expertise and guidance.
  • Ensure performance, reliability and robustness of applications in production.
  • Build clean, maintainable, reusable code following engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to architecture and design discussions for traffic management systems.
  • Improve development processes, tooling and code quality within the team.
  • Keep technical and functional documentation accurate and up to date.
  • After onboarding, take part in a 24/7 on-call rotation for supported applications.

What are we looking for?

  • You have 5–10 years of experience as a Senior Java Full-Stack Engineer working on business-critical applications.
  • You hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • You apply strong hands-on experience with Java 17 and have worked with Java 21 in at least one concrete project or POC.
  • You have deep experience with Tibco RDV, Eclipse RCP, Hazelcast, and distributed or event-driven architectures.
  • You work confidently with Docker, Kubernetes and OpenShift in containerised environments.
  • You manage CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or GitLab, covering build, test and deploy activities.
  • You design solutions with high availability, clustering and disaster recovery in mind.
  • You collaborate effectively in Agile/Scrum environments and participate actively in delivery routines.
  • You are fluent in Dutch OR French, and have a very good level of English.

  • Scrum Master certification
  • Java Developer certification
  • Experience with Xray or test management tools
  • Experience in real-time or mission-critical environments

Workload: Full-time, with 24/7 on-call rotation after training
