We’re looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer to strengthen the Digital Solutions team of a public environmental agency.
You’ll contribute to several strategic projects developing modern tools to improve, automate, and monitor environmental planning and water management processes across Flanders.
Your work will focus on both frontend and backend development using Angular, Java, and Spring Boot, within a Test Driven Development (TDD) and Agile context. You’ll collaborate with functional analysts, testers, and end users to deliver robust, maintainable, and high-quality solutions that align with organizational standards and sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain full stack web applications supporting water and environmental management.
- Translate functional analyses into high-quality, efficient technical implementations.
- Apply Test Driven Development principles to ensure maintainable and well-tested code.
- Collaborate within an Agile/Scrum team and participate in sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives.
- Work closely with analysts, testers, and business users to ensure functional accuracy and usability.
- Safeguard code quality and follow established development standards and best practices.
- Contribute to system improvements, issue resolution, and documentation.
What are we looking for?
- Languages: Fluent in Dutch (C2).
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of professional experience in full stack software development.
- Frontend Development: HTML5, JavaScript, TypeScript, AngularJS/Angular 2+.
- Backend Development: Java, Spring Boot, Test Driven Development (TDD).
- Version Control: Git (code versioning).
- Issue Management: Jira or equivalent.
- Strong debugging, coding, and testing capabilities.
- Solid understanding of Agile development practices and ability to take a guiding role in Agile teams.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with JPA/Hibernate, Maven, REST APIs, and Spring Framework.
- Knowledge of JUnit, Integration Testing, Docker, or other testing frameworks.
- Prior experience in the public sector or with environmental management processes (e.g., river basin plans).
- Experience leading or coaching a development team.
