Join a key player in the European energy transition and help shape the digital backbone of tomorrow’s green infrastructure.
As an Application Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in deploying and maintaining in-house-developed applications that keep the energy network stable, secure, and intelligent. You’ll work within a high-performing IT Infrastructure team responsible for both the technical operation and architecture of mission-critical systems across Belgium and Germany.
This position requires a strong grounding in Windows Server, IIS, and SQL environments, with exposure (or curiosity) toward Linux and hybrid cloud. You’ll collaborate closely with developers, architects, and infrastructure experts, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance across the application landscape.
What You’ll Do
- Deploy and manage applications in acceptance and production environments (Windows IIS & SQL-based systems).
- Participate in architecture and design discussions for new deployments: analyze requirements, define technical designs, and oversee implementation.
- Configure and optimize F5 load-balancing (VIPs) for high-traffic web applications.
- Support shared components such as RabbitMQ, Redis Cache, and other middleware services.
- Perform 2nd / 3rd-level support, root-cause analysis, and escalation management with vendors (Microsoft and others).
- Maintain documentation, installation guides, and operational policies for the environments under your responsibility.
- Collaborate with technical stakeholders to clarify requirements, evaluate risks, and propose solutions.
- Participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation (approximately one week every six).
- Mentor colleagues and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.
What are we looking for?
- Proven experience in Windows Server administration (2012 – 2022), including application deployment and performance monitoring.
- Strong knowledge of IIS configuration and web application integration.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting (plus Bash / Python a plus).
- Good understanding of networking concepts: VLANs, DNS, proxies, firewalls, and load balancing.
- Solid grounding in security principles (TLS/SSL, encryption, keys, certificates).
- Fluent in English, plus either French or Dutch (both spoken and written).
- Valid driver’s license and access to a car and mobile phone for on-call duties.
What do we offer?
- Location: Brussels (Schaerbeek) – occasional travel to Berlin (expenses covered)
- Hybrid work: 60 % remote / 40 % on-site
- On-call: 24/7 rotation (1 week in 6)
- Contract: Freelance or Permanent
- Duration: 12 months, extension possible
- Start: As soon as possible
