You’ll join a forward-looking digital agency driving the data transformation of the Flemish government. The mission: making services more efficient, transparent, and AI-driven. Within the AI & Analytics subteam, you’ll help design and implement advanced machine learning solutions that have a real impact on policy-making, digital services, and citizen experience.
As a Medior Data Scientist, you will:
- Develop and deploy machine learning, deep learning, and NLP models to unlock insights from complex datasets.
- Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and domain experts on data preparation, transformation, and modelling.
- Apply state-of-the-art techniques (ML, NLP, LangChain/LangGraph) to real-world AI use cases.
- Run analytical experiments, evaluate results with advanced validation methods, and document methodologies for reproducibility.
- Support and coach less experienced colleagues while promoting best practices in data science.
- Contribute to the strategy of the AI & Analytics team, ensuring ethical and transparent AI solutions.
Tech Environment
- Languages & Libraries: Python (pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow, NLP libraries), Shell, Perl
- Frameworks/Tools: LangChain, LangGraph, Databricks
- Databases: SQL, Oracle (experience tuning queries & optimizing performance)
- Cloud: Azure (must have experience)
- Data Tasks: Cleaning, feature engineering, pipeline preparation, reporting
What are we looking for?
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in data science projects (end-to-end).
- Proven experience developing and deploying AI/ML models.
- Strong background in NLP and working with pre-trained models.
- Experience with database optimization, query tuning, and analyzing data streams.
- Experience with reporting and data visualization.
- Familiarity with cloud-based platforms (Azure required, Databricks a plus).
- Proactive, pragmatic, and able to work autonomously while thriving in a team.
- Strong communication skills – able to explain results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Language: Dutch – native/C2 level (mandatory), with solid written and spoken communication.
