HVAC Engineer (Construction & Commissioning)

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Civil, Architectural, Cleanroom & HVAC Engineer to
support the construction and commissioning of a new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility,
covering both classified cleanroom areas and technical non-cleanroom areas.
The role includes design review, construction supervision, multidisciplinary coordination,
and commissioning support for civil works, architectural finishes, cleanroom systems,
HVAC installations, and technical building areas such as plant rooms, technical corridors,
support spaces, and utilities areas. The engineer will ensure compliance with EU GMP where
applicable, as well as general industrial and safety standards, and support a structured
handover to operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Review & Technical Validation
• Review and validate detailed design documentation, drawings, specifications, and
technical submittals related to:
o Civil works (structural elements, floors, walls, drainage, equipment and pipe
supports)
o Architectural and internal finishes for cleanroom and non-cleanroom areas
o Cleanroom construction packages (panels, ceilings, doors, pass-throughs)
o Technical and non-classified areas (plant rooms, technical spaces, corridors,
warehouses)
o HVAC systems and interfaces with architectural envelopes and building
structures
o GMP requirements and hygienic design principles where applicable
• Identify design gaps, clashes, constructability issues, and inconsistencies across
disciplines.
• Review and technically assess contractor proposals, shop drawings, and method
statements.
• Participate in design coordination and constructability reviews.
2. Construction Follow-Up & Site Supervision
• Monitor daily site activities of civil, architectural, cleanroom, and HVAC-related
contractors.
• Ensure construction execution complies with approved design, EU GMP (where
applicable), project specifications, and quality standards.
• Supervise installation of:
o Cleanroom wall, ceiling, and partition systems
o Architectural finishes in cleanroom and non-cleanroom areas
o Hygienic and industrial finishes (coatings, wall systems, doors)
o Technical flooring systems (epoxy, PU, vinyl, antistatic floors)
o Civil and architectural works in technical and support areas
• Manage punch lists, deviations, non-conformities, and corrective actions.
• Ensure correct segregation, protection, and sequencing of finished areas.
3. HVAC & Building Interface Coordination
• Coordinate closely with HVAC engineering and installation teams to ensure:
o Cleanroom environmental requirements (pressure cascades, airflow,
temperature, humidity)
o Proper HVAC performance in technical and non-cleanroom areas
• Review and supervise HVAC installation interfaces with:
o Cleanroom envelopes
o Architectural finishes
o Building structures and technical spaces
• Ensure compliant installation of:
o Terminal HEPA filters in classified areas
o Ductwork, penetrations, sealing, fire-stopping, and insulation
• Ensure compliance with EU GMP (where applicable), hygienic design principles, and
ISO 14644 for classified areas.
4. Commissioning, Qualification & Handover Support
• Support commissioning and CQV teams during:
o Room readiness and area completion inspections (classified and non-classified)
o Pre-commissioning and commissioning walkdowns
• Verify construction completion in line with commissioning and qualification
requirements.
• Support inspection and verification activities, including:
o HVAC airflow measurements and balancing
o Support to HEPA filter leak testing and cleanroom classification
o Verification of finishes, room integrity, and interfaces
• Ensure timely closure of construction punch items prior to commissioning and
handover.
• Support preparation and review of as-built documentation and quality records.
5. Quality, Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure EU GMP requirements are applied in classified areas and critical support
spaces.
• Ensure industrial standards, safety requirements, and project specifications are applied
in non-cleanroom technical areas.
• Review Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, and quality
documentation.
• Participate in inspections, audits, and walkdowns with contractors and client teams.
• Verify materials and installations against approved specifications and submittals.
• Maintain construction and commissioning documentation suitable for regulatory and
client inspections.
6. Coordination & Stakeholder Management
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams: HVAC, Electrical, Utilities, Process,
Automation, CQV, and HSE.
• Coordinate interfaces between civil works, architectural finishes, cleanrooms, HVAC
systems, and technical building services.
• Attend site coordination meetings and actively track commissioning progress.
• Act as a hands-on, proactive problem solver supporting project schedule and quality
objectives
